Boys Basketball earns early tourney win

No. 17 Newington 64, No. 16 Kennedy 52: Newington turned a close game late into 12-point victory with a 22-point fourth quarter to advance to the second round of the Class LL State Tournament. The Indians will face No. 1 Fairfield Prep (19-1) Wednesday night on the road.
“It’s going to be a tough one, but my team is looking forward to the challenge,” Newington coach Scot Wenzel said.
Zachary Morris scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to pace the winning Indians effort on the road. Bryant Morander had 13 points and eight rebounds, Michael Koss had 10 points and five steals and Marcus Guadarrama had 12 points and six rebounds for Newington, which improved to 15-8 with the victory.
