Boys Basketball one away from perfect season

Jared Simmons had 25 points and Pablo Ortiz had 19 for Newington, which knocked off New Britain 79-50 in New Britain.

The Indians are now 19-0 on the season with one game to go.

Newington led by 10 at halftime and pulled away after the intermission.

“Defensively we were able to create some turnovers,” Newington coach Scot Wenzel said. “Offensively our guys did a good job moving the ball.”

Now the Indians prepare for Monday night’s showdown with rival Wethersfield and a chance to finish the regular season with a perfect 20-0 mark.

“It’s probably the first time in school history,” Wenzel said. “We have a big game Monday against Wethersfield. We want to finish on the right note. We want to make sure we’re focused on just the game in front of us, and that’s Wethersfield now.”
