Boys Basketball suffers 1st loss of seasonSunday, February 28, 2016 HARTFORD — For the first time in 22 games, the Newington boys basketball team was not able to come up with a victory. In the end it would be an overtime 68-57 loss to East Harford that would see the Indians knocked out of the second round of the CCC tournament. Jared Simmons finished the afternoon with 21 points and four assists. Pablo Ortiz contributed 10 points and six rebounds with nick Guadarrama adding nine points and pulling down four boards as well. The loss puts Newington at 21-1 on the season, but the team will host the first round of the Class L tournament a week from Monday at 7 p.m. The Indians had been coming off their first 20-0 season in school history and earned a tough win over Platt in the first round of the CCC tournament before taking the loss.
