Boys Basketball set to take on Fairfield Prep

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Newington is coming off a 64-52 win over No. 16 Kennedy in the first round while the Jesuits got a bye to the second round.

Newington will have to deal with its biggest challenge of the season, guarding the 7 foot tall Pascal Chuwka. With a wing span of 7-foot-8, Chuwka could pose a big problem in the middle for the Indians.

Newington’s 6-foot-4 senior center Bryant Morander could be called on to guard the big man. The Indians have been carried by the senior captains Tim Blair, Zach Morris and Michael Koss all season long, so it stands to reason Newington will turn to them in this tough matchup.

“It’s going to be a tough one, but my team is looking forward to the challenge,” Newington coach Scot Wenzel said.

The winner of the game will advance to the Class LL quarterfinals where they will meet the winner of No. 8 New Britain and No. 9 Ridgefield.
