New Britain 71, Newington 61: Donavon Lighty tied the New Britain High record for 3-pointers in a game with nine on the way to 32 points to lead New Britain to a big win at Newington by a score of 71-61.

Lighty hit eight 3-pointers in the first half, including six in the second quarter.

“He was just unconscious,” New Britain coach Todd Stigliano said. “We did a good job of getting him the ball. They play a zone we’ve been working on a ton in practice and we got a ton of good shots. Then he just had a special night.”

For the Hurricanes, now 3-4, this was the kind of win which can catapult a season.

“It’s the type of thing you need,” Stigliano said. “We played the best team in the division, we really played well, and hope we can gain some momentum from this. It was just a good all-around game for us.”

Takari Menyfield had 14 points for New Britain, while Zach Tinkham had 17 for the Indians (6-2).
