Coach: Scot Wenzel (10th year)

Last year: 13-10, lost in second round of Class LL tournament

Key losses: Matt Dean, Jorge Premto, Peter Feeney, Sam Tinkham.

Key Returnees: Tim Blair (Sr. G/F), Michael Koss (Sr. G), Zach Morris (Sr. G), Bryant Morander (Sr. F), Syed Ali (Sr. F), Marcus Guadarrama (Jr. F), Edwin Gomez (Jr. G), Each Mach (Jr. G/F).

Outlook: Blair is one of the best players in the region and Wenzel expects a big year from him. The Indians will need it considering how many key players they lost. Newington isn’t without talent around Blair, however.

Morris is an outstanding shooter and should see plenty of time on the perimeter with Koss, a senior point guard who might just be the key to the offense.

“Koss runs the point and sees the floor very well,” Wenzel said.

Morander will give Newington some much-needed help up front, and Wenzel has enough other options at his disposal to create some depth.

Newington has a number of strong all-around athletes who have had success in several sports, so the winning pedigree is there. The Indians just have to put it all together. Wenzel loves the team’s attitude and chemistry,.
